INSURANCE QUESTIONS:
The first thing to know is that we DO NOT accept any Medicaid plans.
We understand that insurance can be confusing and may be new to you. Here is some basic insurance information for you to remember:
1. You have chosen your insurance and the plan, this has absolutely nothing to do with the doctor's office.
2. There are thousands of insurance plans out there and you are responsible for knowing what your copay, coinsurance and deductible are. This is something that you have agreed upon with your insurance company, not our office.
3. Some plans have a copay for every office visit, some don't. Some plans have no copay but have a coinsurance amount due, some don't. Deductibles vary, your deductible could be from $0-$10,000. Please be aware of what your deductible is because you will have to pay that amount out of pocket.
4. What is a deductible? A deductible is a specified amount of money that the insured (that's you) must pay before an insurance company will pay a claim.
5. What is a copay(ment)? A copay is a fixed payment for a covered service, paid when an individual (that's you) receives service.
6. What is coinsurance? Coinsurance is sometimes used synonymously with copayment, but copayment is really a fixed price while the coinsurance is a percentage that the insurer pays after the insurance policy's deductible is exceeded up to the policy's stop loss.
7. Some insurance companies cover 100% of a "Preventative Physical" once a year. New Patient Visits are NEVER considered Preventative Physicals. If you would like a Preventative Physical then you must tell the front office BEFORE you see the doctor. If you inform us AFTER you have already been seen then the visit cannot be coded as a physical and it will be considered a regular office visit.
8. Why should you have insurance? Having health insurance is important for several reasons. Uninsured people receive less medical care and less timely care, they have worse health outcomes, and lack of insurance is a fiscal burden for them and their families. Moreover, the benefits of expanding coverage outweigh the costs for added services. You can also get some free preventive care, like vaccines, screenings, and check-ups, even before you meet your deductible.
